Cornel Țăranu - Stylistic Aspects in 20th-Century Music
Developing his course on Musical Stylistics intended for students of the Conservatory (Composition and Musicology Department), Dr. Cornel Țăranu – composer, musicologist, and conductor – focuses his orientation on a thorough understanding of the classical and romantic artistic heritage. Guiding the students, however, does not conclude with the 19th century. On the contrary, a meticulous, methodological, and stylistic exploration of the creations from the first half of the 20th century and contemporary works, together with everything that encompasses the "letter and spirit" of our century, constitutes the educational concern of Professor Cornel Țăranu.
A well-versed connoisseur of technical achievements and new stylistic directions (himself a passionate "seeker of gold" and "diamond polisher," as evidenced by his remarkable compositions from the last two decades), Cornel Țăranu selectively "chooses" from the vast array of artistic productions and shares them with composition students. He guides them with assurance, steering them away from the pitfalls of ephemeral temptations, towards well-defined objectives.
A clear vision of the "essential," presenting the new along with all its ramifications that indicate the path "from where it comes" and "where it is going," the aesthetic significance of the musical artistic phenomenon; these are a set of coordinates that, combined with a carefully chosen literary approach, ensure that the course not only maintains a high academic standard but also acquires all the superior attributes of a cultural endeavor.
I enthusiastically welcome these pages authored by Cornel Țăranu, confident in the most positive purpose of the invested efforts, aimed at the "spiritual enrichment" of the younger generations of composers and musicologists.
